WHAT IS BAKUCHIOL?
Bakuchiol (baa-koo-chee-owl) is a naturally derived skincare ingredient found in the seeds of the babchi plant - a popular herb used in traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. The botanical ingredient provides anti-ageing and acne reduction results similar to retinol. However, unlike retinols which require a prescription and are often harsh on the skin, Bakuchiol can be purchased over the counter without the inflammation, peeling, and burning sensations often associated with retinols.
Additionally, some studies have shown that the antioxidants in bakuchiol make retinol more tolerable to those whose dermatologists recommend retinol use or those who wish to continue retinol use.
HOW DOES BAKUCHIOL WORK?
Bakuchiol works through several mechanisms to provide its skincare benefits. Primarily, the compound has retinal-like effects on the skin.
